Comicon 2010

July 26th, 2010

Ok, so we just got home REALLY early this morning, my legs are wobbling, and feet are just dead. A lot happened. It was the best time I’ve had in years.

So how the hell can I sum up the amazing weekend I had at Comicon? Here, lemme try; The first amazing story I have to share is when Edgar Write got us into the world premiere of Scott Pilgrim. Yeah, that’s right – EDGAR WRITE, THE DIRECTOR OF SCOTT PILGRIM AND CREATOR OF AMAZING MOVIES LIKE SHAWN OF THE DEAD GOT US INTO HIS MOVIE. He is a very short man, especially next to me. Here’s the story – Fernando was trying to get us some pins that would get us into the movie, but he couldn’t find anymore. They were super limited. As we’re walking away from the theater we see Edgar Wright just kinda chilling out and Fernando, in his amazing Gideon cosplay, starts talking to him and explains our situation. Then, basically, he very kindly and personally got us into the movie. :) When Scott Pilgrim comes out in theaters, you all need to rush to the theater and watch it because it really is THE MOST INCREDIBLY MOVIE EVER MADE. No spoilers. After the movie the whole cast came out onto the stage to show a little face and left. Skraggy and Fernando got autographs.

I met Adam Phillips, creator of the brilliant series Bitey of Brackenwood. Super nice guy with a very sexy accent. Hopefully he didn’t think I was too much of a bitch for playing up Tomar, but they traded business cards….so I guess, mission successful!

I met Tom, creator of Newgrounds, and he was just as sweet and adorable as everyone claims. Actually, it’s thanks to him we even got into the con! Turns out he had bought us a couple passes and forgot to tell us! It was quite the pleasant surprise since our original plan was to go to the San Diego zoo while everyone had fun at the con – FUCK THAT! The con was amazing! I’ve never been in such a large building before and it made me feel very tiny..and a little dizzy. We had a blast with Hans and Swain playing Russian Roulette (with an iphone app, mom) at their hotel room. They were VERY drunk and kept adding crazy and complicated rules to make the game last longer, stressful, and intense…like having your neighbor shoot you and have them pick where they shoot you. Notice how Mike is being shot in the mouth and Hans is in the background making everything as serious as possible. I never knew dieing could be SO FUN! I won twice somehow…which is odd because I never win at anything. Meanwhile, Swain and Hans harass Luis in his sleep by stealing his covers and jumping into bed naked with him while getting everything on camera. Yeah, I just said that. So I had to fly in there and save him like the Supa’ Jaxxy I am. Whatever, I’m a dork.

There were lots of famous people inside and outside the convention center. I saw Paul Sheer running up and down the street on his cell phone…but who cares about that when I met Maddox, creator of the Best Page in the Universe, on the last day we were in the con…which was a dream come true. I am such a little fangirl for my nostalgic jr. high idols. Turns out he’s a really fucking nice man! He gave this alien the finger, gave me one of his posters for free, and let me snap a picture with him. I make it sound like he saved me from certain doom, but shut up. I’m allowed to be a fan girl sometimes.

Before we went home, we realized out passes still had a full day left on them. That night we met up at a Starbucks where Swain got to talking to one of the cute girls behind the counter. She was sad she was missing out on all the fun at Comicon, so we traded her our passes for some delicious Starbucks pastry goods. :) Food is always considered valued currency in my world. They were great for the two our ride home too.

SO NOW I’M BACK HOME IN MY BORING ASS APPARTMENT IN BURBANK. Nah, it’s all good, I missed this place dearly. This coming week is Siggraph, so I gotta get busy and prepare my shit for that. What a busy month. I gotta get to some animating and finish up Sergio and Bear!

Not much going on

July 20th, 2010

Well…That’s a lie. There’s plenty going on right now but I’ve been in a slump recently. I’m finishing up a few commissions, working on some other art, and finishing some flash games and movies. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me…maybe I’m getting bored or losing my mojo or something. Whatever.

I started animating a flash called Sergio & Bear written by my darling Tomamoto. The other day we made DVDs of my Demo reel, so now THAT’S finally done. OH! And we also worked on Tomar’s web site! CHECK IT OUT! It matches his business cards now! I love it. :D

Oh and we saw Inception. If you haven’t seen it yet WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR. GO SEE THIS AMAZING MOVIE RIGHT NOW. RIGHT NOWWWW. GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO.

Hamburger Moon

July 8th, 2010

A couple days after the con and I made a new animation to get me back into the swing of Flash. It’s been a while since I’ve been busy illustrating, so it feels awesome to finish something…even if it’s just a short and crappy animation! :)

You can watch it here!

AX 2010!

July 5th, 2010

I had such a great time at AX this year and I hope everyone that we met with did too. I hope next year more people will come but here are some pictures of stuff that happened. On the 4th of July after the con was over we went over to ChannelCat’s house for some quality entertainment but I forgot my camera. :( Also, I had no idea fireworks were illegal to shoot off in California even on the 4th of July! How unpatriotic!

AX took place in the heart of downtown Los Angeles – lots of heavy traffic, crazy people, and expensive parking. So we took a bus to the convention center (45 minute bus ride from our house full of screaming children and drunk Hispanics), picked up our tickets and took a shuttle back to our hotel. Thank goodness the shuttle service was included with the convention tickets this year! It saved our feet from many long and painful walks. Our room at the Westin also had a great view of the city and was very swanky. I feel very sorry for the maid who had to clean up after us.

On the first day Egoraptor and Suzy came to visit us and we had a mini pre-birthday celebration for Suzy! We were supposed to go to a party that never ended up happening, but we made different plans and went to Benihana and played Munchkin for a few hours in the hotel lobby. I even managed to get our chef on camera for a few minutes. Hopefully I wasn’t breaking any rules there since the guy didn’t stop me!

We managed to meet up with ChannelCat and Spencer at the convention and were also introduced to Adrian and David who were both swell people. Inside the con a lot was going on. We saw everything from anime & manga, to a real life functioning mech robot. Well, not the whole robot, just it’s ankle – but the ankle along was bigger than me. In the artists alley there wasn’t much going on or any art that particularly interested me except for ONE booth. I met one of my most FAVORITE artists in the WORLD! PIMMY!!! EEEE! I was so terrified and starstruck around her, but I managed to buy one of her prints and talk to her a little. I was happy to find out that she was really nice and managed to put up with my awkwardness. :) We also met the guy Tomamoto might be doing some voices for in a new fighting game called Skullgirls. We managed to get a sneak peak at how the game works and the main character – the animation and character designs were incredibly smooth and beautiful. Can’t wait to see more!

On the 2nd (or 3rd I can’t remember) night we all decided to have a night out and go to a dance at the Nokia Club. First, we got on a very shifty old school bus with a bunch of drunk/stoned otakus who continuously scared the hell out of us. I thought the bus driver was going to pull over and kick everyone off. It seemed like it took hours but when we got to the dance they were playing something called ‘speed-core’….which I guess, from my experience, is like techno with no rhythm at all and a jackhammer to your brain. Not the type of music you can actually dance to. :/ Needless to say, it was a bad and annoying joke so we didn’t stick around. Instead we joined up with Ross and headed to Denny’s for a nice 3AM dinner and socializing. We also got some snacks and went swimming in the hotel pool. We didn’t stick around for AX Idol because it was super crowded and noisy, but no one I knew got through anyway, so I didn’t want to stick around to see who won.

I didn’t think I would but I ended up getting a lot of stuff at the con. I usually NEVER spend money at these things but I figured ‘eh, why not.’ and lived it up a little. I bought a bunch things for my nephew as well who has very similar interests and would have probably had a lot of fun at Anime Expo. Too bad he couldn’t be with us…but at the same time, I wouldn’t want him to be terrified by the cos-players and odd adult booths from the con. My most expensive buy was a set of 36 Copic markers that burned a little hole in my wallet but I saved about $40 on them…and I’ve always wanted some nice Copic markers, so I thought it was well worth it. :) Also, note the brain slug on the right which I also found at the CuteStorm booth. CuteStorm sells some amazingly adorable plushies and hats and is looking for a web designer/programmer to make her a nice site. If you’re interested, drop her a line via facebook!

Well that’s about all I can think of to share at the moment. Overall it was a ton of fun! Here are some more pictures of some cos-plays and stuff. The best one I found was the Jake and Finn cos-play! They were adorable!

Anime Expo!

June 30th, 2010

OH MAN OH GOD Anime eXpo is tomorrow!!! Even though hardly anyone I know will be there I’m excited to be go’n to a con with Tomar! :) I got some fancy new business cards to hand out.

Also, the kittens moved out a while ago. I miss them all but I became horrible allergic and had some issues breathing whenever I was around them along with some weird skin reactions. I guess that happens when a tiny house is overloaded with stray cats. So now they’re in a wonderful new foster home with a very nice lady and her daughter. I trust they’ll take great care of them. Momma Skraggle cat is now FIXED (thank goodness) so there won’t be anymore happy accidents from her again. Her mange is starting to clear up and all is well! :)

Bonus: I made Kitten Rescue some updated buttons and banners for their site. The current ones look like shit. :) Feel free to use however or copy and paste the code to share the love!

I haven’t announced it yet but I’m about to; Recropets is blooming rather nicely. It’s still got a LONG ways to go, but feel free to join the forum and check the (currently in development) site for more info!
